THE ARTIST'S HOUSE

Prepared with a  specific theoretical client in mind, this project included client reviews throughout the process. After initial discussion of the design, I determined I would meet the needs of the program with a sculptural home design that related to the client’s artistic style. She discussed her design process with me, emphasizing her thrill in riding the ups and downs of her relationship with art through its development. She stressed her non-linear style of thinking, and her absolute delight in seeing the completed work. This design attempts to capture that process.

Though the home maintains a linear path through, it’s broken into distinct segments holding essential living functions that require the user to inhabit all pieces in normal use. Most importantly, the rear of the home is celebrated with glazing, outdoor living space, and a garden.

The theoretical site for this project was in an established neighborhood with a uniform architectural style. This home recalls the vernacular scale and design of gabled rooves while maintaining a unique design quality.
