SKETCHES FROM GREECE

My study abroad experience included courses in Greek culture and travel journaling. We spent a lot of time sketching historic structures and public spaces around the region. We visited cultural centers, museums, and ancient buildings to understand building designs and methods through the ages.

Many of these sketches are of religious and civic architecture. The mass and detail of these buildings holds significant information about the cultural context.

On page 43 the two top sketches are of churches in Thessaloniki standing since before the common era. The tower structure shown on page 44 represents one of the only historic minarets remaining in Thessaloniki. The others have been destroyed during times of religious turmoil in the region through the ages.
